The COPAs bring together all the media brands and companies that are producing content online, be it a media publisher, corporation or marketer. It is a chance to see the talent that Canada has to offer and some of the great things that are being done around the country. The COPAs consolidates both traditional and new media brands in one big competition.
The Canadian Online Publishing Awards is produced by Masthead Magazine a website that caters to the publishing world. This ensures that a neutral voice for the COPA’s, as Masthead is not affiliated with any trade organization or publishing lobby groups. The COPAs were established in 2009 and as is recognized as the premier Digital Publishing Awards Program in Canada because of its neutrality.
Entries are reviewed by a prestigious panel of content, creative, digital, web tech, marketing, media and advertising experts and winners are selected in 15 categories across three divisions. Winners are announced at a lively awards celebration every fall in downtown Toronto, in what has become the digital publishing event of the year.
Over 50% of the judges are from outside of the publishing industry in other disciplines like art direction, web masters, creative directors and media directors at agencies to ensure objectivity and the awards program has gained prestige in the marketplace for the winners. There a public call for Judges every year to ensure a 30% turnover in the panel each year.
