The Who’s Who’s of the Digital Publishing Industry in Canada

The COPA judging panel over a decade has become the Who’s Who’s of the digital publishing industry in Canada with representation from across Canada, The panel has over 90 judges and is a collection content, creative, digital, web, tech marketing, media and publishing experts. We are honoured to have these people as judges this year as they are our brand ambassadors and we thank them for their time and support as they are all volunteers.

With over 20+ years under her belt in marketing and digital business, Sandra has held several positions in the media industry including Director of Licensing at TC Media and Publisher of ELLE Quebec. She has extensive experience on both agency and client side, working with brands such as Lancôme, IKEA, Yves Saint Laurent, Suzuki, Dior, Reader’s Digest and GM Motors. Manuel is a Chief Product Owner at Bell Media, overseeing an ensemble of digital brands (TSN, RDS, CTV News, CP24, iHeart Radio, Noovo Info, Noovo Moi). In this role, he's leading a fantastic team of digital product owners and ensure that new digital initiatives help consolidate Bell Media's market position in Canada. Back in 2002, he co-founded a video over IP company. They were the trailblazers who took live streaming to new heights—literally. From Kilimanjaro's summit to the stars, they've left no frontier uncharted. Foremost a solution designer and innovator, he's not just user-centric; he's customer-obsessed.

Humayoon Babur is a data journalist and multimedia reporter with over 15 years of experience covering conflict, climate change, misinformation, and human rights. A 2019 Daniel Pearl Fellow, he has contributed to major international outlets such as The Times of London and the Associated Press. He holds a Master’s degree in International Development from Yeungnam University, South Korea. Currently, he focuses on using data-driven storytelling to uncover underreported issues. Humayoon is also an experienced editor, fixer, and journalism trainer, committed to media transparency and amplifying marginalized voices. He lives in Canada and works with global media platforms.

Michele Beaulieu is the Canadian Media Director for Subway. Prior to joining Subway's marketing team in 2016, Michele was on the executive at media agencies, Mindshare and Starcom, leading client teams and developing strategies to effectively communicate with her clients’ target consumers. She thoroughly understands the fundamentals of all media and their role within the communications plan. Michele also taught Marketing for Advertising at Mohawk College in their Business program.

Santiago Bedoya is a podcast and radio producer for the Corus Radio Network and The Sound Off Media Company, as well as a Spanish-language voice-over artist. Before moving to Toronto, he worked as both an imaging producer and radio host at Caracol Radio in Colombia—part of Grupo PRISA, one of the largest media conglomerates in the Spanish-speaking world—where he helped shape the sound of LOS40, the most influential Top 40 station in Latin America. Santiago brings a bilingual edge to audio storytelling, blending sharp editorial instincts with creative sound design to craft content that informs, entertains, and resonates across cultures.

Jennifer Bird is the heart of the Fly Fusion franchise and the driving spirit behind the magazine. She has worked with Fly Fusion since its inception in 2004 and has plays an integral role as Publisher, establishing the magazine’s unique vision. Along with overseeing all staff and facets of production for the magazine, she also oversees planning for the International Fly Fishing Film Festival, which includes over 160 dates around the globe. Fly Fusion has given Jennifer the opportunity to prioritize family ensuring she can escape with her boys to the backcountry whenever the roads are open!

Since 1983, Anne Burke has been the Literary Editor of The Prairie Journal, a member of Magazines Canada since 1984, on the Arts, Literary and Cultural Committee, and pro tem President as a founding member of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. She was President of the Writers Guild of Alberta and Alberta Representative for the League of Canadian Poets. Representing Alberta Magazine Publishers, she was Vice President of the Alberta Cultural Industries Association. For her many contributions, she has been awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal, as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilee Medals.

They are the founder and publisher of The Resolve, an independent media outlet in Canada centring, elevating and celebrating Indigenous, Black, and racialized voices and stories.  They currently sit on the boards of Press Forward and Constellation Media, and are a founding member of Unrigged. Previously they were the managing editor at Xtra where they drove new and innovative digital-only editorial and engagement strategies, and the acting editor-in-chief at rabble.ca where they led strategy for an editorial refocusing and relaunch. Matthew is an alum of Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy for Diversity in Media.

As a consultant specializing in subscription marketing and database fulfillment, Camile has played a pivotal role in developing strategies for audience engagement and retention. Prior to his consulting work, Camile served as Director of Client Services in the fulfillment industry, collaborating with publishers to expand and enhance their digital offerings. His expertise was further honed through his tenure as Circulation Manager at prominent organizations such as Avid Media, TC Media, and Gesca.

She is a journalist who teaches and trains journalism practice and  spent two decades doing daily radio at CBC Radio in Vancouver.  At UBC, Kathryn leads the Integrated Journalism/Journalism Standards and Practices courses, teaches an Audio Module and contributes to the Reporting in Indigenous Communities course and Global Reporting program.
